Press Release

Multiple Aircraft Docking Systems for New Turkish Technic MRO facility

London (MRO Exhibition), 29 September 2010

Today Turkish Technic and NIJL Aircraft Docking signed a large contract for the delivery of multiple aircraft docking systems. NIJL Aircraft Docking, a Netherlands based specialist on aircraft docking systems, will provide Turkish Technic with a total of eight complete narrow body docking systems over the next two years.

The docking systems are intended for the new Turkish Technic MRO center at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport. Under the project name “HABOM”, Turkish Technic is developing a whole new international maintenance, repair and overhaul center at this strategic location.

To support maintenance activities on a wide range of aircraft types, NIJL Aircraft Docking will design the docks for Turkish Technic to suit all aircraft types from the Airbus A320 family range as well as from the Boeing B737 range. The docking systems cover the aircraft from nose to tail, including wings and engines and are therefore ideal for Turkish Technic’s heavy maintenance activities.

The docking systems will be delivered in phases during 2011 and 2012. The first four docks have to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2011. The docking systems will be designed and engineered in the Netherlands and will be manufactured locally in Turkey.

NIJL Aircraft Docking has seen its docking business grow rapidly over the last two years with several big contracts for A320/B737 and A330/B777/A380 docks for well known airlines and MROs around the world.

Additional information on Turkish Airlines Technic and the HABOM project

Turkish Airlines Technic is the provider of MRO operations to the Turkish Airlines’ fleet as well as to various third party airlines.

The years of experience combined with the well-qualified labor force, the strategic location and the increasing market demand, has pushed Turkish Technic to setup a new MRO facility. The new facility will be located at the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, around 70 km’s away from the existing facilities located at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport. The geostrategic location of the new facility will enable the new maintenance center to reach to European, Asian, North African and Middle Eastern MRO markets, as well as the Turkish market.

The new MRO center and all the investments by Turkish Technic within Sabiha Gökçen International Airport are named as HABOM Project (Havacılık Bakım Onarım ve Modifikasyon Merkezi – in English language Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Center). The new center is intended to be a full service provider for both narrow body and wide body aircraft, by doing heavy maintenance, engine and components maintenance. The estimated total investment requirement for the airframe and component maintenance centers on the whole is around US$ 500 million. By the year 2020, HABOM is estimated to generate a US$ 1 billion share from airframe and component maintenance segments. Airframe maintenance center facilities at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport will have a total 372.000 m2 area. There will approximately 3.500 employees within all the maintenance, repair and overhaul centers which will be established within the HABOM Project.

All the facilities that will be constructed within the scope of HABOM Project are environmentally friendly designs which will provide maximum energy savings to protect our world.

Additional information on NIJL Aircraft Docking

NIJL Aircraft Docking B.V. is an international supplier of access equipment for aircraft maintenance, based in The Netherlands. With more than 40 years of experience we specialize in docking systems and mobile access stairs & stands. Many well known airlines, MRO companies and aircraft manufacturers around the world use NIJL products.

Growing demand for NIJL’s narrow body and wide body docking systems. In the last 5 to 10 years we see a growing demand for both our narrow body docking systems and our wide body docking systems.

There is especially a growing demand for our narrow body “combination docks”. These are docking systems that are specially designed to cater for multiple aircraft types, from both Airbus and Boeing, as opposed to only one aircraft type. These combination docks make the MRO operations of our customers much more efficient and flexible.

Our experience in wide body docking systems goes back to the sixties with the introduction of the Boeing 747. From then on we have developed wide body docks for all the major aircraft types, including the Airbus A380 for which we have designed and built docking systems for various well known airlines around the world.
